A device for detecting alcohol fumes inside a vehicle compartment contains an air nozzle (1) for mounting on the dashboard (2) and linked via a plastic hose (3) to an electronic fuel cell or semiconductor sensor (4) used for measuring the amount of alcohol in the air. Power is supplied to the cell or sensor via the vehicle starting key (14) when it is in the second or third position for turning on the engine but not starting it. Engine ignition (16) is automatically turned on when the key is turned and no alcohol is detected in the air. The alcohol sensor is coupled in singles or parallel to a lock (15) that automatically couples a starter relay (9) inside the lock to the engine ignition via signal cables (10) if no alcohol is detected in the compartment air. If alcohol is detected then power supply from the starting key is interrupted, activating the lock in order to deactivate the vehicle and prevent if from being started until the driver gives a breath test. |
