PURPOSE: To obtain a new anthracycline antibiotic having specific structure produced by Streptomyces microbes, having proliferation-inhibitory activity against mouse leukemia cultured cells, thus hopeful as an antineoplastic agent. CONSTITUTION: This new anthracycline antibiotic is expressed by the formula (R is H or OH), having proliferation-inhibitory activity against mouse leukemia cultured cells (L-1210), therefore being hopeful as an antineoplastic agent or an intermediate therefor. The antibiotic is obtained by the following process: Streptomyces microbes [e.g. Streptomyces violaceus A626 SSRU-288 strain (FERM P-14565)] are cultured in a medium, the resultant culture fluid is centrifuged, the microbes collected are then subjected to acetone extraction and the extract is concentrated and then further put to extraction with chloroform, and the resultant extract is concentrated and then purified through silica gel column chromatography. |
