The hook-plate (3) swivels on a pivot-pin (5) between vertical support (1) and cover (10) plates. The support plate also carries the solenoid (4), whose horizontal stroke, transmitted to the hook-plate by an end-pivoted connecting rod (6), causes it to rotate about the pivot. A spring (7) normally sets the hook-plate so that its notch and those of the adjoining stationary plates enclose the stretcher pole end (2). Energising the solenoid rotates the hook-plate, releasing the stretcher; on de-energising the spring re-establishes the closed position. The device is mounted adjustably (8,m9) on the vehicle floor and protected by a GRP cover.
