DETECTION OF BUTT WORK POSITION OF BUTT WELDING

PURPOSE: To detect the butt position of works having chamfering and 'shear droops' at ends with high accuracy. CONSTITUTION: The position data on work surfaces are taken in by a laser position sensor. The regression line of the front surface position of the works is determined from the taken in data. This line is moved in parallel by Z1 in the depth direction of the works, by which a gap detecting line is set. A recessed detecting line obtd. by parallel moving the regression line downward by Z0 is set and the lowest surface position between the two intersected points of the recessed detecting line and the detected surface position is set as the butt position when the detected surface position of the works do not intersects with the gap detecting line. The distance between the intersected two points is detected as a gap G if the detected surface position intersects with the gap detecting line. The point where the G is divided in proportion to a predetermined ratio is determined as the butt position if the gap exists between a predetermined lower limit distance G1 and an upper limit distance G2 .
