The generator includes an optical waveguide (1) which is bounded on one surface (2) by an envelope layer (3) of electro-optical material with refractive index low enough in at least one of its states, to conduct a ray of light (7) into the waveguide. When the index of the envelope layer is increased locally (8) by an electric field, the ray is transmitted instead of reflected. Transmission is performed through an overlayer (5) to a point on a photoreceiver (6) in a localised zone (12). A secondary light source is created which is effectively located on the back (4) of the envelope layer.
