Transverse bulkhead for motor vehicles

The bulkhead (5) is formed as a preassembled unit, with at least one supporting element chosen from the longitudinal supports (3,4), A-pillars (9,10), C-pillars, lower crossmembers, sills, or from part of these supports. The unit may have at least one edge section and/or reinforcing section, which is designed to accept an attachment. The attachment may be the pedal unit, switch panel, or fixing points for a restraint system or a roof. The bulkhead, supporting element and mountings, and the edge or reinforcing sections may all be made from a light metal and/or plastics. A process for constructing the bulkhead is also discussed.
