Detection of bridging-gaps in power rail for electrical rail vehicle

The power supply for an electrical rail system is in the form of a power rail (4) and this may have gaps at functions, branches, etc. that potentially can cause a transient interruption. The detection of the gaps and prevention of interruptions is obtained with the aid of three current pick ups (1-3) spaced at intervals (a1,a2,a3) relative to a contact signal pick up (5). Gaps are detected and information stored in memory and these relate to the distances. Virtual contact pick ups are defined (11-13) and used by a processor (8) to avoid any interruption.
