<p>Derivatives typified by a novel thiazolidine-2,4-dione derivative having no benzyl group at the 5-position, which is presented by general formula (I) and has a hypoglycemic effect, in particular, novel quinoline derivatives exhibiting a hypoglycemic effect when administered orally, wherein R1 represents hydrogen, C¿1?-C6 alkyl, amino represented by -NR?4R5 (R4 and R5¿ being independently hydrogen, C¿1?-C6 alkyl, phenyl, pyridyl, pyrimidyl or benzoyl), phenyl, naphthyl or C3-C8 cycloalkyl which may be substituted by C1-C6 alkyl, C1-C6 alkoxy, halogeno, hydroxy, C1-C6 halogenoalkyl, C1-C6 halogenoalkoxy, nitro, amino, phenyl, thienyl, furyl, thiazolyl or pyridyl, or a five- to eight-membered heterocyclic group having one or two nitrogen, oxygen or sulfur atoms with the rest of carbon atoms as the constituent atoms of the ring; z represents O, S, C=O or CH2; E represents S or O; m is an integer of 0 to 4; p is an integer of 0 to 4; q is an integer of 0 to 4; and -- represents a single or double bond.</p> |
