<p>A wireless digital personal communications system (or PCS) (10) having a plurality of radio cell base stations (14), fixed terminals (13), and portable handset terminals (12), each having a predetermined radio cell coverage area (20). The wireless PCS has a full digital network interface. The personal communications system (10) facilitates the interconnection and switching of PCS call traffic through the digital network interface and the public switched telephone network (22), or any switched network.
