In a method for operating a printer, to which, for example, endless paper can be fed by means of a drivable drawing-in head via a feed path into a through-path of the printer, fitted with the at least one print head, and can be separated, paper webs to be printed on are to be exchangeable in a quick and simple manner, the precise printing and precise separation to be ensured equally. For this purpose, it is proposed, when changing the paper source after separating the last paper section printed out, to feed the introduced paper web with its cutting edge back to a sensor, when the sensor responds, to form and store the difference between the intended movement of the drive and the actual movement thereof, to continue withdrawing the paper web into a given rest position and to advance the paper web provided for the further working of the printer from its rest position, the reference value of each intended advance movement needing to be corrected by the difference stored for this paper web. |
