Process for brominating of alkyl rubbers

Bromination at 10-100 degrees C opt. under pressure and in presence of organic azo cpds. and/or alkali(ne earth) hypochlorites together with (cyclo)alkanes and water is such that: (a) 0.2-1.2 mols Br2 are used per mol. of double bonds in the rubber; (b) 0.1-3 mols. hypochlorite and/or azo cpd. are used per mol. of Br2; (c) the concn. of hypochlorite in aq. soln. is 2-20 wt.%; and (d) the wt. ratio water:alkane:alkyl rubber is 5-20: 60-90: 5-25.
