The bin (1) has a lid which is hinged to one of its upper edges so that it can occupy two positions - one covering the open top of the bin, and the other suspended vertically from its hinges adjacent to the bin's outer surface. The bin is equipped with damper which make contact with the lid at least in its open position. Each damper comprises a block (7) of an elastically deformable material with one end (9) forming a stop for the bin lid, mounted on a support (10) which is connected to the bin adjacent to hinge or on a lug (10) which is connected to the bin adjacent to a hinge or on a lug (6) which forms part of the hinge. The other end (8) of the block acts as a stop for the lid to prevent it from banging when it is closed.
