PURPOSE: To obtain an equeous medium liquid for controlling temperature of machine tools, containing specific amounts of a polyoxyalkylene compound having a specified molecular weight and a benzotriazole (derivative), excellent in flame retardance, heat transfer characteristics, corrosion and abrasion preventing properties and useful for the precision machining field, etc. CONSTITUTION: The aqueous medium liquid for controlling temperatures of machine tools contains water as a substrate, (A) a polyoxyalkylene compound having 5000-20000 number-average molecular weight (e.g. polyoxyethylene glycol, polyoxypropylene glycol, a mono- or a dialkyl ether or a polyhydric alcohol ether thereof) and (B) benzotriazole (derivative) such as benzotriazole or a compound of formula I [R<1> is a 1-4C alkyl; (a) is 1-3] or formula II [R<2> is R<1> ; R<3> is CH2 or CH2 CH2 ; R<4> and R<5> are each H or a 1-18C alkyl; (b) is 0-3]. The contents of the components (A) and (B) are respectively 1-20wt.% and 0.005-0.1wt.% based on the total amount of the medium liquid. |
