PURPOSE: To provide a light guide element having good scattering efficiency for light and uniformity of scattering which is useful for uniform illumination into a soln. used for photochemical reaction or photosynthesis reaction. CONSTITUTION: This element consists of a glass rod in which both the end faces 10A, 10B are used as the incident face and exit face for light and lots of small air bubbles 12 are present in the glass rod 11 so that the irregular effect of these bubbles to the outside is used. More preferably, the element is formed to satisfy one or more conditions that the air bubbles have about 50μm to 1mm diameter, the density of bubbles gradually increases from the incident face for light to the exit face, the diameter of the glass rod decreases from the incident face to the exit face to form a tapered rod, and the side face of the rod is used as a light-scattering face.
