PURPOSE: To obtain a polyester composition with the thermal decomposition temperature of the particles therein and the melting point of the polyester within specified ranges, respectively, capable of giving films excellent in surface smoothness, slipperiness and wear resistance, thus suitable for e.g. magnetic recording media. CONSTITUTION: This composition <=250 deg.C in melting point contains 0.01-2.0-wt.% of organic polymer particles 0.01-2.0μm in average diameter and 260-350 deg.C in thermal decomposition temperature. It is preferable that the main recurring unit(s) of the polyester be ethylene terephthalate unit and/or ethylene naphthalate unit, at least one unit selected from adipic acid, isophthalic acid, sebacic acid, diethylene glycol, hexamethylene glycol, sodium 5-sulfoisophthalate and lithium 5-sulfoisophthalate account for <=40mol% of the total acid components, the thermal decomposition temperature of the particles 300-340 deg.C, and the redative standard deviation of the particle size distribution for the secondary particles <=0.5.
