PURPOSE: To obtain a grinding part material high in both mechanical strength and toughness, excellent in wear resistance and thermal stability, and good in grinding efficiency. CONSTITUTION: This sintered compact consists mainly of ZrO2 and contains at least one kind of rare earth metal oxide (R2 O3 ) selected from Y2 O3 , Yb2 O3 , Ho2 O3 , Er2 O3 and Dy2 O3 , with the Y2 O3 accounting for 30-70wt.% of the R203. A feedstock prepared by e.g. oxide mixing method starting from the above formulation is preliminarily baked at 500-1200 deg.C and then sintered at 1300-1700 deg.C to obtain the objective sintered compact <=5μm in average crystal grain diameter and >=5.8g/cm<3> in bulk density. The crystal grains consists mainly of tetragonal phase or mixed phase of tetragonal and cubic systems. The other objective grinding part material consists of this ZrO2 sintered compact. |
