PURPOSE: To damp the vibrating energy of a three-dimensional space with a compact device by providing a horizontal damping device having electrode plates laminated into an optional thickness with a horizontal space, and a functional fluid sealed in the space through a packing, and a vertical damping device having the functional fluid similarly sealed between adjacent cylindrical electrode walls. CONSTITUTION: When a vibration is transmitted to a building 10, a current is applied to an electrode plate 3, in a horizontal damping device 1, and a voltage is added thereto. The shearing force of a functional fluid 5 is then increased to absorb the energy against a disturbance. To the vertical disturbance, sliding is caused on the slide surface between a projection 1a and a hole 13a. In a vertical damping device 2, the current is applied to bottomed multiple cylindrical electrode members 6, 7, and the voltage is added. Successively, the shearing force of the functional fluid 5 filled in the space between cylindrical electrode walls 6a, 7a is increased to absorb the energy. To the horizontal disturbance, a base plate 6P is nipped by a plate 14 and a support body 13m and horizontally slid. Thus, the damping effect can be exhibited to the three- dimensional space. |
