The process is for protecting a signal from a sensor (3) that is connected to a central unit which receives impulses proportional to the distance. The impulses are counted and distance covered and speed determined, from this data. The signals (1) from the sensor are transmitted to the taximeter (2), containing information on distance covered and speed. The signal may be carried by a cable (10). A rotor (8) may be coupled to the vehicle, providing impulses (9), to be identified (7) by the sensor. A control element may be calculated from the information and transmitted with it, to determine correctness of the information received. If incorrect, or interrupted, the taximeter is void. A microprocessor, or logic circuit (11) may be connected to the sensor and control unit, to determine the control element.
