The conveyor cleaning installation has a cleaning station mounted on a frame (7) that attaches to the base (2) of the conveyor. The cleaning station has a motorised rotating brush (8), a spray bar delivering cleaning chemicals, disinfectants or rinsing liquid (9,10), a brush or scraper (12) to remove surplus liquid and an automatic tensioner to deflect the belt to the cleaning station. A supplementary stream of hot air can be directed onto the belt from an outlet (18) positioned near the belt surface, speeding the drying of the belt. Operation of the cleaning station is controlled manually, or automatically under a program operating the cleaning, wiping and drying cycles.
