Hydraulic fluid is pumped (11) from a reservoir (2) via the master cylinder (1) while the isolating valve (4) and wheel brake cylinder inlet valves (5,18) are closed, to build up a max. pressure in the high-pressure store (24). This process ends after a defined interval or when the brake pedal is operated. The storage line (22) passes through a two-port two-position solenoid valve (23) which is closed to maintain the pressure before the inlet and isolating valves open. The isolating valve is open in the de-energised condition of its electromagnet and can take over a pressure-limiting function.
