487,918. Stencils. CORRADINE, R. July 13, 1937, No. 19446. [Class 100 (ii)] A stencil device for applying lipstick &c. comprises a normally flat stencil-mount 10 provided with a handle 12 and formed of flexible sheet material such as celluloid which permits the mount to be flexed temporarily to conform to the surface to be decorated, the mount being provided with a window 14 in which is secured a removable flexible stencil 15 comprising an opening defining the lip design, and the handle being arranged so that the mount and stencil can be flexed and pressed against the face without causing the hand holding the device to interfere with the free action of the other hand in applying the coating material. The length of the device in the longitudinal direction of the handle is greater than the width to permit the device to be flexed as desired. In some cases, the detachable stencil may be dispensed with, the stencil aperture being formed in the plate 10 itself. Slits 16 are provided along the edges of the window 14 to receive the edges of the stencil, the handle 12 has ornamental slots 13 which facilitate bending, and the upper edge is cut away at 11 to fit under the nose. Alternative arrangements for receiving the stencil comprise pockets or recesses to receive the corners thereof, elastic straps to secure the ends, sides or corners, rebated strips attached to the mount, bevel grooves along the edges of the opening, and grooves formed in the mount by uniting complementary rebated sheets.
