A process for direct expansion and evaporation of a fluid mixture of refrigerant and transport medium has the pressure reduction below vapour pressure at the input to the vapour chamber so that the contents cause simultaneously the expansion, the generation of a large phase boundary and the fluid separation, and thereby at the same time reproduce the vapour space. The location of the elements affecting the fluid flow can be changed by a hand-operated controller or other control circuitry so that all possible load conditions can be matched. The transport medium may be an absorption medium.
