A device for supporting and positioning a mechanical part (4) having at least one bore (5) or a shaft with a cylindrical cross-section, on a supporting base plate (6) comprising at least one opening (18). The device comprises a spindle (1) made of expandable material with a sealed hollow inner cylindrical space (16) for receiving a pressurised fluid, and the cylindrical rod-shaped end (15) of the spindle projects through said opening (18) so that it stands proud of said base plate (6), while the spindle base portion (13) having a greater diameter than the rod portion (15) is supported on a shoulder (22) secured to the base plate (6) behind said opening (18).
