The system has a framework (3') and wheel carriers (30,30'), and has one or more shock absorbers (1,1') mounted horizontally across the coachwork. The vertical section (13') of at least one transmission arm (10,10') is connected to the shock absorber, and its horizontal section (12,12') is connected to a wheel carrier. The central section (11,11') at which the horizontal and vertical sections meet, is connected to one end of a torsion rod (20,20'), and its other end is connected to the framework. A suspension strut may also be connected to the framework, and may support each wheel carrier, or a connector between the carrier and its arm.
