Molten glass stirrer which allows use of smaller troughs and shorter feed channels

To apply a controlled cooling to a glass flow, and to homogenise the glass, a rotating stirrer (12) with a stirrer shaft (9,9a) passes through glass level (5), with stirring blades (11,11 a) at different height levels, with a coolant flowing through the stirring shaft (9,9a), adjustment is made to the number of stirring blades (11,11 a) immersed in the glass. Also claimed is a stirring appts. with hollow zones within the stirring blades (11,11 a) for a coolant. At least one temp. monitor (22) is at the variable height mounting for the stirrer shaft (9,9a), to register the temp. of the glass flow from the stirrer (12). The monitored temps. are used by a control (24) to set the height of the stirrer (12).
