The device has a folding mandrel (13), on the outside of which cutouts are folded, into which the group (11) of cigarettes is loaded. The mandrel consists of pref. two parts (19,20) joined to each other by fine laser weld seams (e.g. 21). The mandrel parts are made of spring steel sheet. It is fixed to the revolving folding device by a connector. The mandrel parts may have abutting edges (23,24) in the side wall zone (16,17), which may be laser welded when butted together without addition of welding material. The parts may be made in overlap in the side wall zones to form a common plane on the outside of the mandrel.
