The card index filling system consists of rectangular cards with two holes (7) punched near one long edge. Material is cut away from the opposite edge to leave a tab (4) which carries a reference symbol or letter (A,B etc). The length of the tab (4) increases from card to card so that the reference letters of all the cards are simultaneously visible when the cards are stacked one upon another. The cards are produced by a machine with an endless belt which carries blank cards to a punching station where the holes (7) are punched. The cards then have a symbol printed or embossed and then cut along the side on which the symbol is printed or embossed. ADVANTAGE - The cards can be stacked in alphabetical order if required.
