The dampening unit has an inking roller (2) rolling on a forme cylinder (1), a transfer roller (6) designed preferably as a friction roller, and one of a variety of non-contact or contacting dampening agent dosing devices (10, 10' or 10"). In order to form a uniform film of dampening agent and ensure good accessibility to forme cylinders with a small circumference, two bridge rollers (4, 5) are in direct contact with the inking roller (2), and the transfer roller (6) are arranged in parallel between these rollers. The bridge rollers and inking roller can be rotated as a unit about the axis of the transfer roller to swing them away from the forme cylinder. <IMAGE>
