For the support of the small of the back the chair comprises a concealed support cushion (6) inflatable and evacuated by an actuating mechanism (10) which is also concealed within the upholstered backrest (1) and releasable from its outside. The support cushion and the actuating mechanism form an integral module secured to an inner shell (3) of the backrest. The actuating mechanism comprises a hand pump, a valve (8), and hose lines and is fitted laterally of and/or below the support cushion.
