Payment-based audiovisual playback system comprising a microprocessor device associated with a payment device primarily including mass storage means, for storing inter alia the digital compressed visual and sound information to be used. The system is associated through interfaces with digital display means and digital sound playback means which provide a multimedia environment. The invention is characterized in that the digital display means and video monitor are associated with a touch screen associated with an interface programme responsive to outside events, translating them, for the graphic operating system, as mouse events using a library of integrated tools and services, to trigger either a change in the execution of one of the man/machine interface programme modules, or a change in the physical operating parameters of the jukebox.
