At the expansion compensator (5), a deflection saddle (1) is fitted at right angles to the flue gas flow (7) with a first profiled strip (4) which lies flat at its rear but is bent circularly upwards at the leading end. An identically shaped second strip (6) above the first strip produces a narrow channel (8) between them and the second strip is supported on the saddle. The top surface of the saddle for its part resembles the shape of the first strip, the two strips being hollow or solid as preferred. Suggested design materials are sheet metal or ceramics, using the narrow channel to raise the velocity of the flue gas above its general flow level to keep the ash moving straight through and round the saddle bend.
