In a process for mfg. a plastic sheet, esp. a floor covering, with a random marbled surface: (i) plastic sheet is mfd. and one face is heated to a molten state; (ii) hard, sharp-edged granulate is metered onto the molten face; (iii) the sheet is passed through a two-roll calender (4) to embed the granules in the polymer to a given depth; (iv) the sheet is heated again and passed through a second two-roll calender (16) for embossing a structured face in the sheet and simultaneously pressing the granules completely into the sheet. Claimed process plant comprises machinery (1) for sheet prodn., a first heater unit (7), granulate metering system (9), a first two-roll calender (4), a second heater unit (15), a second two-roll calender (16) with an embossing roll (17) and a heated press.
