The electrode assembly, for a glass melting trough, has the electrode holder (17) and the axis (A-A) of the electrode holder (17) pitched at an angle of 0-60 deg to the vertical. The forced cooling unit (18) extends upwards over the level (12) in the trough. Over the trough level (12), the electrode holder (17) has a sealing (24) working with the electrode (19) to prevent the entry of oxygen into the gap between the electrode (19) and holder (17).
