The apparatus compresses image data, edits more than 2 programs, records the compressed image data in a digital storage media(DSM), and losslessly reproduces the compressed image data. It comprises a data converter(21) decoding the compressed image data, and generating DSM data from the overall image data coded in a intraframe coding method; an error correction coder(22) for dealing with the errors on a magnetic tape; a channel modulator(23) for enabling the data, generated from the error correction coder(22), to be stored in DSM(24); a channel demodulator(25) demodulating the data in the DSM(24); an error correction decoder(26) correcting the error of the data input from the channel demodulator(25); a data inverse converter(27) generating the original compressed image data by inversely converting the data, generated from the error correction decoder(26).
