Method of trimming grinding discs with shaped edges

The process involves the bringing into contact and exertion of a high contact pressure between the edge of a stiff circular trimming tool (3) and the profiled edge of the grinding disc (2) to be trimmed. The parts in contact are rotating at the same peripheral speed about parallel axes. A sideways force (A) is exerted by the trimmer as a point load on the disc in a direction dependent upon which side of the profiled disc is to be trimmed. The device has a base material or coating for the tool which is harder than that of the disc. The radius of the edge of the tool is less than any concave radius to be formed on the disc. Shaping of the disc takes place by crushing at the point of contact.
