The appts. includes a rigid elongate base body (1). A micro-tracer or tracing pin (8) is guided on the base body by guide elements. The tracer outputs signals corresponding to the tracing movement of a tracing diamond (11). A miniature drive mechanism (44,45,46) for the micro-tracer is arranged in the base. The drive mechanism moves the tracer at constant speed relative to the base over a trace path in a profile section plane of the workpiece. An accurately dimensioned reference plane (31,32) is arranged in the base. The tracer is guided precisely over this plane, relative to the base, in it tracing movement.
