<p>A universal socket tool (10) includes a housing (20) having a square internal chamber (22) which is open at a lower end thereof. An array of square pins (28) is suspended in sliding relation in the chamber (22) with the lower ends of the pins (28) arranged for engagement with a plurality of different fastening elements. Selected pins (28) include tapered lower ends (40) for engagement with a slotted screw head. The pin suspension system includes upper (42) and lower (44) plates mounted in spaced relation in the chamber (22). The plates have aligned apertures (46) for slidably receiving the upper ends of the pins (28). A flange (36) at the top of each pin (28) is positioned above the upper plate (42) and a lower end of each pin is located below the lower plate (44). Each pin (28) is provided with a spring (48) disposed around its upper end for returning the pins (28) to their normal position after disengaging the fastening element.</p> |
