PURPOSE: To surely prevent ink from oozing out through the joint of an ink cartridge on a recording head side and consequently realize high quality recording by a method wherein a switch gear is so controlled as to open only during the driving of a recording head and during the driving of a maintenance device. CONSTITUTION: When cartridges are exchanged, by operating a recovery switch (or a sucking action starting switch), capping is forcibly executed and then sucking action is started in order to allow to recharge ink in a printing head. Next, simultaneously with the receipt of the sucking action signal, an ink feeding valve 15 is opened so as to communicate the ink discharge port of the head with the ink in the ink cartridge in order to realize the smooth charging and feeding of ink in the head through the sucking action. Simultaneously with the completion of the sucking action, the ink feeding valve device 15 is closed. |
