PURPOSE: To reduce storage capacity required for a storage device and to reduce the cost of the device by storing program data required for a function whose use frequency is low by means of a compressed state. CONSTITUTION: FLROM(flash ROM) 2 stores a control program which CPU 1 executes and various data required when a processing program is executed. Program data for realizing the processings of a device maintenance function and a device initializing function are preserved in the compression program area of FLROM 2 in the compressed state by a prescribed compression method. When an initialization function is requested, for example, CPU 1 reads compression program data of a program for initialization from FLROM 2 and preserves it in the work area of DRAM 3. A prescribed restoration processing is applied to compression program data and original program data which can be executed is formed and executed.
