PRODUCTION OF ISOBUTYLENE POLYMER HAVING REACTIVE SILICON GROUP

PURPOSE: To provide a process for producing an isobutylene polymer having silicon groups whereby the amount of a platinum complex catalyst used can be reduced without lowering the yield by hydrosilylating an isobutylene polymer having specified silicon groups in a sealed system at a specified temperature. CONSTITUTION: An isobutylene polymer having reactive groups of formula I (wherein R<1> to R<3> are each H or a 1-5C monovalent organic group; R<4> is a 1-5C monovalent organic group; (a) is 0-2; and X is a halogeno, an alkoxy or an organoxy) or formula II is obtained by hydrosilylating an isobutylene polymer having groups of formula III (wherein R<5> to R<7> are each the same as R<1> , R<2> or R<3> ) with a compound of formula IV in a sealed system at 40 deg.C in the presence of a platinum catalyst. It is desirable that the groups of formula III are groups of formula V and/or groups of formula VI, and that the compound of formula IV is trichlorosilane, methyldichlorosilane or dimethylchlorosilane. It is desirable that the platinum catalyst is used in an amount to give a molar ratio to the groups of formula III of 5×10<-4> or below.
