PURPOSE: To provide the rare gas discharge lamp, which can improve the starting ability and which can prevent the change of the color of the emitted light, and a lighting system using it by using a conductive coat. CONSTITUTION: The rare gas at 30Torr or more or at 30-120Torr as the light emitting material is sealed in a bulb 1, in which electrodes 2, 2 are sealed in both ends thereof, so as to form a rare gas discharge lamp. In this rare gas discharge lamp, a conductive coating film 5 is formed on the outer surface of the bulb 1. Consequently, since the conductive coating film (EC film) is formed on the outer surface of the bulb, discharge is induced between the conductive coating film and the electrodes at the time of starting, and the starting voltage is thereby lowered. Even in the case where the impurity gas is generated from the conductive coating film, since the conductive coating film is formed on the outer surface of the bulb, contamination of the sealing gas with the impurity gas is prevented, and change of the color of the emitted light is thereby prevented. |
