PURPOSE: To provide the document processor and its retrieving method which enables index-based document retrieval with a small-capacity memory. CONSTITUTION: An object document holding part 101 holds an object document file to be retrieved. A character position difference index generation part 102 generates character position difference indexes showing appearance positions by keys with difference values by using respective characters in the object document as keys, and they are held in a character position difference index holding part 103. Here, the respective difference values are varied in the number of bytes according to their values. A character position difference index retrieval part 105 retrieves the position having the same position relation with a retrieval word held in a retrieval word holding part 104 by using the character position difference indexes. |
