PURPOSE: To eliminate marbled brush marks in an image by specifying the circumferential speed ratio of a roll-like brush to a drum-like photoreceptor. CONSTITUTION: The roll-like brush 1 has a shaft 2 and is rotated by a motor 4. Voltage is impressed on the brush 1 by a DC power source 5. The brush 1 is brought into contact with the photo receptor 3. This electrostatic charging device is constituted so that the circumferential speed ratio of the brush 1 to the photoreceptor 3 may be >=1, desirably <=0.5, more desirably <=0.1. Furthermore, an exposure device, a developing device and a transfer device are arranged on the outer peripheral part of the photoreceptor 3. In such constitution, the brush 1 eletrostatically charges the photoreceptor 3. Thus, the surface of the photoreceptor 3 is uniformly electrostatically charged and the marbled brush mark in the image is eliminated. |
