PURPOSE: To form an excellent herical track with a stable track width by using a magnetic recording head recording a herical track plotted at the last time among even numbered herical tracks generating a group of signals as a reference head for mounting the head. CONSTITUTION: The head drum of a magnetic recording/reproducing device is provided with a magnetic head 10Rb as a reference, a mounting reference B of the lower end, a magnetic head 10Ra, a flying lace head 9Eb, an FE head 9Ea, the track width W1 of the magnetic heads 10Ra, 10Rb and the track width W2 of the FE heads 9Ea, 9Eb. The mounting height of the magnetic head 10Ra is h1, the mounting heights of the FE heads 9Eb, 9Ea are h2, h3 and track widths W1, W2 and the mounting heights have a toleranceΔ. The magnetic heads 10Ra, 10Rb have the function of recording in a magnetic tape and record a herical track on the magnetic tape. The FE heads 9Ea, 9Eb erase the recorded herical track. The lower end 5 of the magnetic 10Rb is a mounting reference B for arranging all magnetic heads.
