Aq. printing inks contg. a binder based on an anionic macromolecular cpd. are used for printing publications of the type produced in large numbers and which have good de-inking characteristics when repulped, by printing onto paper fed from rolls. Pref. the printing ink is adjusted to a pH of 7.5-12.5 (8-11) by addn. of a basic substance. The macromolecular cpd. may be dispersed in a liq. vehicle. The macromolecular material has a mol.wt. of at least 25,000, esp. > 50,000 and partic.> 100,000, a solidification temp. of at most 50 deg C, pref. at most 20 deg C and esp. at most 10 deg C and an acid value of at most 70, esp. at most 50 and partic. at most 30. The macromolecular material is chosen e.g. from (A) a (co)polymer of at least one monomer with at least one C=C bond and which is a carboxylic acid, a carboxylic acid ester, a carboxamide, a carbonitrile or an aromatic hydrocarbon; pref. polymers are polymers and copolymers of (meth)acrylic acid and their derivs., esp. esters and copolymers of these with styrene or vinyltoluene, (B) polyurethanes or (C) polyesters.
