PURPOSE: To stably detect defocus quantity with high reliability. CONSTITUTION: Based on a signal column outputted from a photoelectric conversion element column, a focus detection arithmetic operation range is set 3b on the photoelectric conversion element column. Then, the contrast distribution of the outputted signal column corresponding to the arithmetic operation range is detected. Based on the contrast distribution and coefficients previously set to the plural photoelectric conversion elements of the photoelectric conversion element column, the conversion coefficient 3C of the arithmetic operation range is decided. Besides, the relative deviation quantity of a pair of outputted signal columns corresponding to the arithmetic operation range is calculated. Based on the coefficient 3C, the deviation quantity is converted to the defocus quantity of a photographing lens 100. |
