A domestic appliance comprising a bowl (11) sealable by means of a releasable lid (13) and containing a vertically extending spindle (15) with a cutting blade (25) at its lower end (19) received in a bearing (21) secured to the bottom of the bowl, while the upper end (27) of the spindle freely projects through an aperture (29) in the lid (13), as well as a motor unit (34) releasably mounted on the lid (13) and provided with a driving member (43) secured to the output shaft (41) of the motor (40) for engaging the upper end (27) of the spindle (15) supporting the cutting blade. Said domestic appliance further comprises a device (50) for slowing down the rotating cutting blade (25) after withdrawal of the motor unit (34), said device being provided in the region of the aperture (29) in the lid (13) for engaging the upper end (27) of the spindle supporting the cutting blade in order to halt the rotation thereof.
