PURPOSE: To provide an image fiber which has high resolution, is free from unequal brightness and is formed to decrease the crosstalks of transmitted light and a process for producing the image fiber and further, the image fiber having a large outside diameter and high flexibility and a process for producing the image fiber. CONSTITUTION: This image fiber is composed by arranging cores 11a to 11e which consist of plural kinds of respective optical fibers having core/clad ratios nearly equal to each other and varying in outside diameters and have the same outside diameter in such a manner that these cores do not adjoin to each other. The image fiber 10 is produced by using the respective optical fibers of plural kinds having the core/clad ratios nearly equal to each other and varying in the outside diameters, arranging these respective optical fibers in such a manner that the cores 11a to 11e of the same outside diameter do not adjoin to each other, inserting the fibers into a jacket pipe 12, then heating the fibers at a high temp. to fuse the clad parts 13 of the respective optical fibers to each other and in succession, drawing the entire part down to a prescribed size. |
