PURPOSE: To provide an image processior adopting an image processing system in which a magnified image not causing a flur even at an edge of a character image part and a border while keeping smooth gradation reproduction. CONSTITUTION: An image from an original is photoelectric-converted and an A/D converter section converts the image into a digital image signal. An image identification section identifies whether the image signal represents an image having character property or an image having gradation property based on a characteristic of a spatial frequency characteristic. In the case of the image having character property, a contrast emphasis processing section emphasizes contrast and a magnification/reduction processing section magnifies the image. Then the magnified image is given to a gamma transformation section 20, in which the image is subjected to gamma transformation at a steep gradient and a gradation processing section 31 applies gradation processing to the image to reproduce the original image. |
