PURPOSE: To provide a checking device for an optical disk capable of surely prohibiting illicit copying. CONSTITUTION: A pickup section 6 which reads out information by irradiating the optical disk with a laser beam 8 of this checking device 5 of the optical disk 1 having tracks formed by concentrically or spirally arranging many pit arrays and having a mirror finished surface section 4 partially provided with these pit arrays is subjected to tracking control by a tracking processing section 10 in accordance with the tracking error signal S1 from a tracking error detecting section 15. The pickup section is jumped in the parts corresponding to the mirror finished surface part of the optical disk and the parts formed with the ordinary tracks respectively by generating a lens kick pulse from a lens kick pulse generating section 21. The respective track transition numbers are counted by a track counter 16 and is stored in a first storage section 18. A comparison section 19 compares the two count values in the first storage section and a control section 17 recognizes whether the normal optical disk or not in accordance with the result thereof. |
